Alessandro Michele debuted an unexpected collection as new creative director of Valentino this week and it was sublime!
Originally slated to present his first designs for the house during the Spring/Summer 2025 show in September, Michele surprised everyone by dropping a pre-spring 2025 collection titled "Avant les Débuts" (Before the Beginning).
This surprise release, unveiled online just days ago, offered a tantalising glimpse into Michele's vision for the iconic Italian fashion house. Renowned for his maximalist aesthetic and playful blending of eras, Michele didn't disappoint. The collection, consisting of a whopping 171 looks alongside detailed accessory shots, showcased his signature style.

"Avant les Débuts" hinted at a deep respect for Valentino's heritage. Michele incorporated elements from the house's archives, seamlessly fusing them with his own flamboyant and gender-fluid sensibilities. Think opulent fabrics juxtaposed with bold prints, and classic silhouettes reimagined with a modern twist.
The collection is more than just a clothing line; it's a declaration of intent. With "Avant les Débuts," Michele establishes himself as a respectful custodian of Valentino's legacy, while simultaneously carving his own path.
As the fashion world eagerly awaits his official runway debut in September, they can — at least— savour this extravagant introduction to a new era at Valentino.
