For the first time in the brand’s history, two ambassadors were chosen to represent Balenciaga’s creative energy.
Announced via a - now-deleted - Instagram post on July 31st, Balenciaga has named French actress Isabelle Huppert and Thai actor/singer PP Krit Amnuaydechkorn as its brand ambassadors. This choice was justified by common “creative work, values, and approaches to life, these individuals represent the modern Balenciaga community.”
This announcement follows the new identity Balenciaga seems to be working toward after numerous viral controversies, including a campaign that incorporated SCOTUS child porn documents and children holding teddy bears wearing BDSM garments. After swiping clean its Instagram account and remaining silent for a few months, Balenciaga seems to be on the path of a new, more grounded, era of creativity.
Internationally renowned, Isabelle Huppert is a French actress that appeared in over 130 films and TV shows. Throughout her career she has won 11 awards, and received over 100 major accolades, making her one of France’s most prolific and respected artists. Her unique artistic sensitivity seems to make her the perfect fit for Balenciaga, as she explained: “Balenciaga tells a story of passion and dedication to artistry. I've always believed that fashion is an art form, and I'm thrilled to be part of this narrative.” Huppert had already collaborated with the brand in the past, the first time being July 2021 during which the actress wore a Balenciaga black maxi dress on the Cannes red carpet. She also appeared several times on the catwalk, most recently during the Fall/Winter 23/24 show.
As for PP Krit Amnuaydechkorn, the actor/singer has grown to become one of today’s most adored artists in his home country and internationally for his roles in television and his refreshing pop music. The artist states that “from the very beginning“Balenciaga has captured my attention for its creativity and ethical vision. As an artist, Balenciaga's creations allow me to express my authentic self and individuality to the world. During the proudest moments of my career, Balenciaga has been my chosen companion. I’m honored and thrilled to pursue this exciting journey as a Balenciaga ambassador.” As PP Krit was in attendance at the past few Balenciaga shows, it was announced that they would work closely together on upcoming projects.
After being knocked to eighteenth place on the 2023 Lyst Index, Balenciaga seems to be working discreetly towards a more refined image by working with beloved artists within the creative industries.
