In the world of fashion, few brands evoke the same sense of innovation and modernity as Courrèges.
Founded by André Courrèges in 1961, the brand quickly became synonymous with the Space Age style of the 1960s, revolutionising women's fashion with its bold, modern designs and innovative use of materials.
André Courrèges was a French fashion designer who was born in Tarbes, France, in 1923. He studied architecture and engineering before pursuing a career in fashion. After working for several prestigious fashion houses, including Balenciaga and Givenchy, he launched his own label, Courrèges, in 1961.
In 1964, Courrèges unveiled his "Space Age" collection, which was a defining moment in his career. The collection featured mini skirts, helmet-inspired hats, and accessories like goggles and gloves, all inspired by the Space Race of the era. The collection was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish Courrèges as one of the most influential designers of his generation.
The iconic French fashion house, has since then undergone a remarkable transformation under the creative direction of Nicolas di Felice, who took the helm in 2020. With a keen eye for detail and a deep respect for the brand's heritage, di Felice has breathed new life into Courrèges, whilst maintaining its signature futuristic aesthetic and minimalist sensibilities.
di Felice's approach to fashion is rooted in a deep appreciation for the past, while simultaneously embracing the future. Taking cues from contemporary culture, he incorporates elements of streetwear and sportswear into his designs. Under di Felice's leadership, Courrèges has retained its signature geometric shapes, clean lines, and minimalist aesthetic. However, he has also introduced a sense of fluidity and movement to the brand's designs, making them more relevant to modern lifestyles.
Nicolas di Felice's Courrèges is a brand for the modern age. A brand with a rich heritage, yet adept at looking ahead and pioneering the future of fashion.
