As Paris Fashion Week runways heat up, Givenchy takes it back to basics.

Paris Fashion Week is now in full swing, and Givenchy’s show certainly left quite an impression. Rather than going down the route of surface level bling and gimmicks that have become popularised over the past several years of the fashion Maison's collections, the brand went back to basics for their AW24 collection.

Staged in Hubert de Givenchy’s own atelier, the birthplace of several of Givenchy’s staple designs, the runway was intimate and simple. This year’s show created by the brands design team exuded an understated, classic mix of nostalgia, style and class, through both location, and the showcased pieces. Rather than allowing the focus to be dispersed amongst celebrity appearances and flashy sets, Givenchy truly took this year’s opportunity to explore the classic roots of the iconic brand we know today.

The collection itself acted as a modernised tribute to the brand’s founder. It seamlessly included elements that have been rightfully associated with its roots: inventive cuts, heavily blue colour palettes in varied shades (combined with cooler greys and warmer browns, of course), and even Givenchy’s beloved sapphire hues. The overall feel underlined a sense of effortless elegance, with several uniquely cut blazers taking the runway alongside looks that could easily be classed as business-street wear.

Despite a classic, subtle colour scheme, the collection was far from dull. Whilst Givenchy’s journey to rediscovering its identity was somewhat visible as the show progressed, the overall aim of paying tribute to its roots was definitely achieved in this AW24 collection.
