British fashion designer Kim Jones has announced his departure from Fendi, ending a highly successful tenure as artistic director of the prestigious Italian luxury brand.
Jones joined Fendi in 2020 after the death of Karl Lagerfeld in 2019, bringing a fresh perspective and contemporary edge to the iconic label. His collections drew inspiration from Fendi’s storied Roman heritage, particularly the women who founded the brand. He infused the designs with a contemporary twist, blending traditional elegance with a playful, pop-inspired aesthetic. The colour palette of beiges and pastels further enhanced this fresh perspective, seamlessly blending Fendi's heritage with modern aesthetics, garnered critical acclaim and commercial success. Under Jones' leadership, Fendi experienced significant growth and expanded its reach to a wider global audience.
The news comes amid a growing number of lead creative shakeups in the luxury sector with LVMH - Fendi’s parent company stating that Jones plans to “concentrate fully” on his role as artistic director of menswear, and that a new creative lead will be announced in “due time.” It will come as no surprise if this recent shakeup extends to Dior in the near future.
