A 10th anniversary to be remembered!

Labrum London's AW24 show, titled "Designed by an Immigrant: Journey of Colours," took centre stage at London Fashion Week, captivating audiences with its vibrant storytelling and powerful message. Creative Director Foday Dumbuya continued his signature style of blending West African cultural influences with British heritage, creating a collection that resonated with themes of resilience, diversity, and cultural fusion.

The show drew inspiration from luggage and goods carried on the head, often seen in migration journeys. This concept manifested in oversized shapes and prints throughout the looks, highlighting the significance of what immigrants carry with them - not just physical belongings, but also cultural legacies and personal stories. Like the soft sounds of waves, the to and the fro of the melodies sung by the choir lulled showgoers on as the models walked down the runway in structured and sleek cut designs, yet a seamless fluidity could be seen in each transition.

Adding another layer of depth, the casting for the show reflected the collection's message. England and Saracens rugby player Maro Itoje, whose family emigrated from Nigeria, opened the show in a symbolic suit adorned with a British passport print. Other notable figures like singer Ella Eyre and actor Hope Ikpoku Jnr joined the diverse group of models, further emphasizing the universality of immigrant experiences.

The show culminated in a powerful finale titled "FLAGS," referencing an image depicting a family crossing a river in search of a new beginning. Several flags draped around the frame represented countries involved in historical migrations, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. Ending on a high note, and a speech from Dumbuya the show was the perfect way to celebrate the brand's 10th anniversary.
