In collaboration with 50 international brands, Italian luxury retailers LuisaViaRoma x British Vogue hosted Runway Icons, an open-air catwalk aiming at retracing the evolution of fashion. The show took place during Pitti Uomo, a biannual menswear fashion fair in Florence.

Set against the iconic Piazzale Michelangelo, under the clear Florentine sky, Natalia Vodianova, the first model to appear, crosses the catwalk in a sumptuous, white signature Giambattista Valli tulle dress, escorted with a performance from Andrea Bocelli, the iconic Italian tenor. The other models quickly followed with garments from emerging and established talents such as Off-White, Christopher John Rogers, Richard Quinn, or Vivienne Westwood.

LuisaViaRoma, famous for its annual UNICEF Gala in Capri and St Barth’s, buzzing performances from artists the like of Drake, Jennifer Lopez, and Lenny Kravitz, partnered with British Vogue’s Editor-In-Chief Edward Enninful for this year’s edition. Four years after its last show, in collaboration with Carine Rotfield, which celebrated the luxury retailer’s 90th anniversary as well as the launch of CR Runways.

With over 100 looks, Runway Icons was an homage to fashion, aiming at retracing the iconographic evolution of the industry. From custom looks, current season garments and vintage interpretations, the catwalk was a beautiful celebration of the industry. Edward Enninful described the event as a “unique opportunity to bring together a selection of the world’s leading designers in one show stopping moment.” Younger names such as Nensi Dojaka, Jacquemus perfectly blended with older names like Fendi, Giorgio Armani and Maison Margiela in a perfect explosion of styles ranging from 60s Space Age to 90s Red Carpet Glam and British Modern Punk.

1500 A-listers from all around the globe, such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Julia Fox, and Toby Maguire, attended the show as well as the dinner and after party hosted by the retailer, whose president, Andrea Panconesi claimed to be “respectful of the past, focused on the present, and projected into the future.”
