Maitrepierre took to the Paris Fashion Week runway to explore the cyclical nature of adapting to one’s environment.

From the poetic concept of metamorphosis to the practical notion of adaptability, Maitrepierre embodies it all in their SS25 collection. A nod to the current trend of AI-generated videos on social media, the designer Alphonse Maitrepierre combined nostalgia from decades past with the current development of technology and artificial intelligence.

Opening the show with a top reminiscent of the ‘98 iMac G3, models made their way down the runway carrying flip phones and consoles morphed into accessories. Maitrepierre noted that all pieces were created from deadstock, waste and certified materials, emphasising sustainability as a key element of the collection.

Challenging conventional fashion norms, these designs feature unconventional elements like off-centre lines and collars that slide down sleeves. Soliflores bloom into full dresses, while drapes and stripes swirl like mesmerising vortexes. Even joystick buttons find their way onto polka-dotted fabrics. Technological relics are repurposed into wearable art: imagine TV dresses, Gameboy tank tops, and bags inspired by vintage keyboards. Wires, plugs, circuits, and joysticks adorn silhouettes perfect for lounging in front of your favorite TV series.

With the looks ranging from a camp reminder of the ‘98 Mac model to anime motifs and bathrobe gowns, the collection was an ode to the technology and media of the past 30 years, and a hope for those incoming to be just as impactful.
