Here is what you missed from NYFW Day 3.

Day 3 of New York Fashion Week was a showcase of the versatility of glamour. Designers Jason Wu, Adam, and 3.1 Phillip Lim all presented collections that mixed traditional glamour with unexpected elements, such as sportswear, ballet-inspired details, and apocalyptic aesthetics.

Adeam and 3.1 Phillip Lim are two designers who are challenging the traditional notion that fashion and sport cannot coexist. Their recent collections have shown that it is possible to create stylish and functional clothing that is perfect for both the gym and the runway.

Adeam's collection was inspired by ballet, featuring a number of pieces that were designed to move with the body. The clothes were made from soft, flowing fabrics, such as tulle and lace which were cinched at the waist to create a flattering silhouette. The collection also featured a number of criss-crossed tights that added a touch of playfulness to each design.

After four years of absence and a pandemic that had a considerable hit on his house amongst many others, 3.1 Phillip Lim came back with an emotionally charged collection. Intersecting between sportswear inspirations, utilitarian shapes, and glamour elements, his return was a well-executed take on his Asian-American identity. Mid-calf leggings, voluminous and layered skirts as well as flowy and floral dresses were central to this collection. While the fabrics interchanged between elegant tulles, sporty denim, and chic sheer, the garments told the same story: these are of an urban woman with a strong sense of self. The clothes were made from technical fabrics, such as recycled nylon, and they featured a number of functional details, such as zippered pockets and adjustable straps. The collection was also designed to be gender-neutral, reflecting the growing trend of athleisure for all.

Hosted at Isamu Noguchi’s Sunken Garden at the Chase Manhattan Bank Plaza, Jason Wu’s collection was a raw yet beautifully created collection that intersected perfectly between deconstructed garments and sheer elegance. Toying with the juxtaposition of refined materials such as tulle, beadings, and silk with distressed fabrics, the collection was an exploration of nature’s raw power and imperfection. While frayed hems were a key theme in the collection, the addition of prints inspired by scientific drawings from the 30s made it feel poetic and enchanted. The models sported wet hair and gluey makeup completing the 'mermaidcore' looks the collection was centred on. Ethereal, slightly post-apocalyptic, yet highly elegant would be the best way to describe this stunning collection.

The third day of NYFW was a whirlwind of activity and eclectic designs, enabling us to embrace the versatility in glamour.
