Sacai and Carhartt WIP: A Collaboration of Contrasting Styles

By Bethany Berkeley

Sacai

Sacai x Carhartt WIP

Japanese fashion brand Sacai and American workwear brand Carhartt WIP have collaborated on a collection that brings together two very different styles.

Sacai is known for its deconstructionist approach to fashion, often taking classic garments and adding layers, asymmetry, and other unexpected elements. Carhartt WIP, on the other hand, is known for its rugged, utilitarian clothing.

The resulting collection was first shown on the runway at Paris Fashion Week in January 2023, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about collaborations of the season. A fascinating mix of the two brands' DNA, the collection includes, denim jackets layered with shearling, work pants paired with pleated skirts and oversized parkas adorned with floral prints. The colour palette is also a mix of classic Carhartt hues (black, khaki, navy) and more unexpected shades (mint green, beige, tan).

In addition to the clothing, the collaboration also includes a limited-edition capsule of footwear. The shoes are a mix of Sacai's signature deconstructed style and Carhartt WIP's rugged aesthetic. Featuring double-layered soles, oversized laces, and co-branded details.

The pieces will be available to purchase online and at select retailers from September 8th.
