A piping hot take on the art of tea making.

Feng Chen Wang's AW24 show was a masterclass in blending tradition and modernity, infusing the age-old ritual of tea brewing into a collection that was both stylish and thought-provoking. Held in an abandoned building block in central Paris, the show transported guests to a world where earthy hues, leaf-like prints, and unexpected silhouettes came together harmoniously.

Wang, born in China but based in London, has always found inspiration in her dual heritage. This season, she turned her gaze to the simple yet profound act of making tea, using it as a lens through which to explore themes of nature, ritual, and community. The result was a collection that was both visually stunning and emotionally resonant.

The colour palette was a symphony of browns, greens, and beiges, echoing the tones of tea leaves, roasted earth, and steaming brews. Oversized silhouettes with unexpected cuts and draping added a whimsical nature to the collection, whilst tailored pieces like tweed coats and bomber jackets provided a sense of groundedness. Cropped trucker jackets with asymmetric cuts gave off a sense of rebellious cool. other standout pieces included strong-shouldered tweed coats, and bomber jackets paired with slink slip dresses cinched in with delicate cords, made for an intricate play on masculinity and femineity.

No Feng Chen Wang show is complete without a standout collaboration, and AW24 was no exception. This season, she partnered with Converse once again to create a reimagined Chuck 70, featuring a chunky rubber sole and elevated proportions. The collaboration was a perfect blend of Wang's avant-garde aesthetic and Converse's cool appeal.

The show was a triumph of artistry, one that expressed Wang's culture deeply, whilst translating it into something universally relatable. As the final model walked the runway, the scent of tea lingered in the air, a fitting end to a show that was as refreshing as a perfectly brewed cup.
