Cyclical, yet iconic, here are the trends that will complete our closets in the upcoming year.
This September’s eventful fashion month has certainly left us with plenty of memorable moments and looks. Along with phenomenal pieces making their way to most of our wishlists, the past four weeks of runways and iconic moments have also given us a preview of the trends from fashion month we’re likely to see in next year’s Spring/Summer season.
Luxury is Loud Again

From Prada’s sequins and socialite-esque runway in Milan to Alessandro Michele’s Parisian Valentino debut which was a flurry of embellishments, faux-fur, laces and florals, luxury is no longer as “quiet” as it has been for the past couple of seasons. The beginning of next year’s Spring/Summer season is likely to see fashionistas embrace the maximalism and open opulence we’ve seen on the runway this past month, rather than attempts to emulate the whispering wealth that has been the epitome of elegance and style for arguably too long.
The Return of the Powersuit

Alongside opulence being the new elegance, the timeless powersuit has also made its way back to the runway and is certain to end up in many, many closets as 2025 approaches. The most notable appearance of the elegant classic was, of course, Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent, but Alexander McQueen and Uma Wang also brought forth impeccably tailored contributions to the returning trend.

Retro prints were another element to the runway. Bright colours, repeating patterns and 70s style colour combinations made their way into collections by Miu Miu, Gabriela Hearst and the traditionally printed Versace. While the prints are a throwback, the silhouettes have remained modern and fashion forward. The appearance of this stylistic fusion of different points in time will definitely take to the streets next year.
Down to Earth

Earthy undertones have appeared in the shows this fashion month in more ways than one. Isabel Marant, Ralph Lauren and Chloé all brought forward salt-of-the-earth boho chic (occasionally with a cowboy twist) in neutral tones, which were seen throughout the runways. Miu Miu and Luar have also underlined the token accessory for the upcoming season - the brown handbag. Earthy tones and motifs will likely dominate the upcoming season, especially in streetwear.
Collar Me Curious

Prominent collars were a key focal point this September - Schiapparelli's Daniel Roseberry presented oversized, extravagant collars, while Chanel gave their collars a modern, elegant twist in their synonymous tweed textures. A reimagined standard collar is likely to be a common appearance in offices as well as at special occasions as next year’s spring/summer season approaches.
As we prepare our closets for the upcoming warmers seasons, it’s time to dig through old items with a flashy elegance, neutral tones and retro prints and bring them back out.
