Corré cites disrespect towards her grandmother, the founder of the eponymous brand, and her vision as the reason for her departure.
Cora Corré, Vivienne Westwood’s granddaughter, model and activist, has made the executive decision to leave the brand and fully immerse herself in work with the Vivienne Foundation instead. In the post explaining her departure, she cited poor management and the disrespect of her grandmother’s legacy and values as the main reason for the surprising decision.
The tensions between Corré and Vivienne Westwood’s CEO Carlo D’Amario began following the brand’s release of the collaboration with Palace. The Vivienne Foundation quickly voiced concerns about the values of protesting capitalism and war, defending human rights, and striving to fight against climate change being ignored by the brand’s management. Corré reportedly questioned D’Amario’s leadership and requested his removal on multiple grounds, including the mistreatment of Westwood herself.
The Instagram post announcing her stepping down states: “Although the company bears my grandmother’s name, right now it doesn't seem to reflect her values. Vivienne taught me to always fight for what is right, and I want to stay true to that principle. […] my role within the company has become untenable. Moving forward, I will focus my energy on honouring my grandmother's legacy through the Vivienne Foundation and continue the work that was so important to her.”
Corré will remain the Campaign and Project Management for the Vivienne Foundation.
