Chiapponi's departure was confirmed via a statement on Wednesday, July 9th. His last show will take place during Milan Fashion Week in September.

This announcement comes four years after Chiapponi first took over the position at Tod's. He was appointed as creative director of the Italian Heritage House back in 2019 and made is debut in the Fall of 2020. According to a statement released by the brand, this exit comes from a “mutual agreement”, announced the CEO and Chairman of Tod’s, Diego Della Valle. He also thanked the designer “ I thank Walter for the journey we have walked together, for his creativity and for the commitment we have shared together.”

No new creative director has been appointed as of yet, but as new creative directors are becoming a novelty, we're sure to hear an announcement in the near future alongside a new ‘creative direction” according to the brand.

Before joining Tod’s, Walter Chiapponi, born in Milan, worked for many luxury houses such as Valentino, Givenchy, Gucci and Bottega Veneta. “Dedication, love and energy. This is how I would like to thank and salute Tod's, starting with a truly special style team, which for four years has supported my vision and contributed to this wonderful journey with delicacy, care, passion and trust.” said Chiapponi while talking about his experience working for Tod’s.

The brand, known for their famous Gommino loafers, had recorded an increase of 23.2% of sales during the first quarter of this year.
