The start of Milan Fashion Week is today, with some of the biggest, and oldest houses showing their newest collections, the Northern Italian city promises six days filled with enormous talent and big dreams.
With a total of 176 shows, events, and presentations between the 19th and 25th of September, Milan is about to start buzzing like a fashion bee’s nest. Today is the official kick-off with no less than 13 brands showing their SS24 collections. Opened by Iceland’s leather show at 9:30am, the day will continue with fashion sports brand Onitsuka Tiger at 1pm, Fendi at 2pm, and will end with Roberto Cavalli, Etro, and Diesel.
Of course, while some houses like Prada, Versace, and Fendi will be carrying on with business as usual, some brands are making a comeback this season with highly anticipated new creative direction. Since Alessandro Michele’s departure from Gucci, the iconic Italian brand was left in the shadow, until this Spring/Summer 2024 season that will introduce its first collection under Sabato De Sarno’s new direction. On the other hand, Tom Ford has also selected Milan as the new playground for recently appointed fashion designer Peter Hawkings. Moschino, which was left without a creative director since Jeremy Scott's abrupt departure, will be celebrating its 40th anniversary with a collection signed by: Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, Lucia Liu, Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, and Katie Grand.
Amongst the many heritage houses present at Milan Fashion Week, some brands will be making their debut on Italian soil. This includes Maxivive by Nigerian designer Papa Oyeyemi on the 23rd at 7pm, The Attico’s highly anticipated show at 6pm, and Swedish brand Rave Review on the 24th at 6pm.
